Leslie R Hemauer
Fond du Lac WI
Leslie Robert Hemauer, age 74, of Fond du Lac, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 10, at his home. He was the son of the late Clarence and Barbara (Schabach) Hemauer and was the oldest of eight siblings.
Les graduated from Hilbert High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically. He went on to earn a degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, followed by a Master’s degree in Business. Les began his career at Lomira High School in Lomira, WI, where he taught for 35 years—the entirety of his teaching career. His passion for education not only shaped countless young minds but also built a legacy of kindness, knowledge, and inspiration. Les’ commitment to his students was remarkable, and his influence will be felt for generations to come.
He was a proud and active member of the Lomira Lions and the Camelot Golf Club in Lomira. Over more than 30 years, Les served the Lions as treasurer and a devoted volunteer. He was honored with the Lions’ prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in recognition of his dedication and service to the community. To say Les enjoyed golf would be an understatement—he loved the game, and he loved the camaraderie it brought. Whether playing a round or sharing stories at the club, he cherished the friendships the sport brought into his life.
A true sports enthusiast, Les was in the stands at the 1967 “Ice Bowl” (Go Pack Go!), front row for the Milwaukee Brewers’ 1982 World Series run, and present the night the lights came on at Wrigley Field. That same spirit carried over to the people he loved—whether across town or across the country, Les would go anywhere, anytime, to be in the stands cheering on his nieces, nephews, and friends at their sporting events.
Throughout his well-lived life, Les embraced opportunities to travel and seek new experiences. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and friends. His genuine kindness, warm smile, and steadfast loyalty touched all who knew him. Les found his greatest joy in the relationships he built, showing everyone around him the true value of friendship and making life richer and more meaningful for those fortunate enough to know him.
Survivors include his stepdaughters, Amanda (Shawn) Morgan and Alicia Halderson; step-grandchildren, Adalyn and Callum; his former wife and special friend, Judy Hemauer; his siblings, Steve (Kathy) Hemauer, Janet (Frank) Morgan, Lynn (Gary) Harden, Cindy Michiels, Gary (Diane) Hemauer, Pam (Mark) Giannonatti, and Brian (Nancy) Hemauer; and his nieces and nephews, Chris Hemauer, Heather (Roman) Chestelson, Garrett (Dana) Harden, Patrick (Kristen) Harden, Mitchell (Nicole) Michiels, Justin (Liz) Giannonatti, Tyler (Janelle) Giannonatti, Brittany (Brice) Whitman, Nicole (Jon) Giannonatti-Dyche, Melony (Doug) Hess, and Scott (Jayne) Caruso. He is also survived by his dear friend, Gene Schroeder; great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara “Bette” and Clarence “Bike” Hemauer; nieces, Amanda and Jennifer Hemauer; and brother-in-law, Randy Michiels.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 8:30 am until 11:15 on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the church. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, view a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

To the whole Hemauer family, I wish you all the best at this time. Les was a great guy. I remember when I was a bat boy for the old Albers Softball team, and Les was always my favorite. I also had a lot of fun when Les would come to the infamous Hemauer late night Christmas bar time at Who's the Boss. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Les was a favorite teacher and treasured friend! My sports go to person. Les class mate and friend Leon at the Gospel Festival on Friday was certain I looked and acted like a Hemauer. Les would smile at that as I am. What a high honor!! So sorry I can’t join you on Tuesday, but will be with you in prayer. To his family, special friend and former wife Judy my eye tech, and dear friend Gene God’s peace and comfort. Looking forward to Heaven together!

To the family of Les, I worked with Les when we did NAEP testing for several cycles. He was a gem of a man and always ready to make you smile, care about what you needed to do and ready to stop for a drink after a long, hard day! He always wanted to know how you were doing and if you needed help with anything. He made our team smile and cared about our team. Most of all he cared about the kids we came in contact with. He was a gem and I was saddened to hear about his sudden passing. My condolences to his family and close friends who will miss him deeply. Margie Keuler, NAEP coworker

My sympathies to the Hemaur family. I had Mr. Hemaur as an accounting teacher in high school. I learned a lot from him but most of all I remember his passion for March Madness.

Les, I will miss you at our annual golf trips to the UP. We may not have gone together, but we sure ran into each other a lot up there. Just seeing you on Aug 2 and to see that you left this world too soon, really sucks. I guess the good do die young, but than you were better than good. Can't make it to the celebration of your life on Tuesday, but was in Hilbert yesterday visiting my sister for lunch at the Stone Hearth. They had a Gospel Fest at the park and it was packed, but then you probably already know that. Rest in Peace!

What a gem of a man he was and will be greatly missed. Loved playing softball with him; a competitor, a leader and a great teammate who had a special way of loosening up the team when the chips were down. He reminded me so much of his dad- Bike; with a huge smile who brought great fun into every encounter. Les’s smile and humor was contagious. Blessings to the Hemauer family.

Our years in Hilbert when John was a teacher there were some of best years of our long lives. The Hemauer family was a fun part of the whole experience. Les was a special young man. Our hearts go out to all of you. Bette and Bike were always proud of their family.

Les had a way of making every person feel valued. He treated everyone the same, no matter who you were, where you came from, or what you had. There was no judgment in his heart, only compassion. He truly saw people, not for their flaws or differences, but for their humanity. He gave generously not just in material things, but in time, in attention, and in care. If you needed a hand, he was there. If you needed to be heard, he listened. And if you needed to feel like you mattered, he had a way of reminding you that you did. The world can often feel divided, but Les was a bridge. He brought people together. He reminded us that life is less about what we accumulate and more about how we treat one another. We will miss his gentle spirit, his open heart, and the warmth he carried with him. But we can honor him by carrying forward what he showed us that compassion costs nothing, and kindness is never wasted.
