Lillian E Ecker
Stockbridge WI
Lillian Evelyn Ecker, age 87, of Stockbridge died on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Caring Hands Assisted Living in New Holstein. She was born March 8, 1938 in Chilton, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Ambrose & Helena (Hoerth) Propson.
While working as the ‘Hat Check Girl’ at what is now known as Neighborhood Pub & Grill in Brant, she met John Ecker. The chance meeting turned to love, and the couple was married on August 8, 1957 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton. Together, they raised six children and celebrated 68 years of marriage this past August.
She was a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church as well as the Christian Women where she volunteered countless hours in service to her church. It was also here that she worked as the janitor for both the church and the school and always appreciated the help all of her children were compelled to offer when cleaning those large buildings. For a time, Lillian was also a member of the Stockbridge Red Hat Society and enjoyed time with all of her friends visiting and laughing.
Lillian enjoyed time crafting and had made a lot of wedding and baby albums throughout her life. She was well known for her prowess in the kitchen and always made the best home made turkey dressing and angel food candy. In the summer, she made refrigerator pickles and sent gallon upon gallon out the door for friends and family to enjoy.
Lillian will fondly be remembered as a person who would go out of her way to be of help to others. She did everything in her power to bring joy to others and lend a hand where she could.
Survivors include her husband: John Ecker; her children: Cheryl Stilp, Carol (Craig) Carey, Lynn (James) Kurscheidt, Chuck (Jolene) Ecker, Brian Ecker, Dean Ecker and his significant other, Julie Ditter; her grandchildren: Debbie Stilp and her significant other, Jimmy Wetstein, Danny (Stacy Birschbach-Stilp) Stilp, Tracy (Brian) Westphal, Christopher Tasch, Laurie (Todd) Russell, Matthew (Kristi) Tasch, Mark (Shayna) Tasch, Mike (Jill) Kurscheidt, Sara (Mark) Bruggink, Adam (Stacy) Ecker, Steven Ecker, Jessica Ecker, Kathryn Ecker, Keith (Kaelynn) Ecker, Brendan Ecker and his significant other, Mary Miller, Brianna Ecker and her significant other, Tarhemen Raines-Bass, Cody Ecker, Kimberly (Josh) Moehn, Dylen (Noelle) Ecker, Megan (Deegan) Kossman; 18 great grandchildren with some additional arriving soon and 3 Step great grandchildren; her brother: Jerome (Nancy) Propson; and her sisters-in-law: Diane Ecker & Hannah Propson. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law: George & Veronica Ecker; a son-in-law: Jeff Stilp; her siblings: Freddy Propson, Norman Propson, Ginny (Jerry) Coenen; and her siblings-in-law: James (Eunice) Ecker and George Ecker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church (201 N. Military Rd.) in Stockbridge with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, December 5, 2025 and on Saturday at the church from 9:00 am until 10:45 am. There will be a vigil service held Friday night at the funeral home at the close of the visitation. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a livestream or archived recording of the service, view a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.
Lillian’s family would like to thank the staff at Caring Hands for all of the care that they have given; to Fr. Larry Abler, OFM Cap. for his pastoral visits; and her dear friend, Verna McCabe at Caring Hands who visited her nearly every day. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff from Compassus Hospice for the care that they provided to Lillian as well as her family during these last days of Lillian’s life on Earth. The family would also like to thank Father Micheal Betley and Diane Wickersheim, for the funeral service.
Condolences
My memory of Lillian is from very young when we would attend our cousin’s weddings at Brant. She was always smiling and laughing and I loved watching her and John dance. May she rest in peace.
