Lloyd Buechel

Chilton WI

Lloyd Buechel, age 92, of Chilton, died on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein.  He was born August 7, 1932 in Brothertown, son of the late Roman & Sine (Geiser) Buechel.

Lloyd proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.  During this time, he married Dorene E. Behnke on June 11, 1953 on the Marine Corps base in Quantico, VA; she preceded him in death on January 15, 2017.

Following his honorable discharge, Lloyd returned to Chilton where he worked as the grocery manager of the Chilton Shopping Center.  A bit later in life, Lloyd also worked at Farm & Home in Chilton and Stanton Place where he took care of all of the maintenance needs.

He had a passion for music and helped keep the beat by playing drums with the Jerry Schneider Orchestra for over 17 years.  Lloyd also was an active member with EAA and frequently attended the annual fly in at Oshkosh.  When he wasn’t working or playing the drums, Lloyd found himself as a Ham Radio aficionado and spoke with people around the world.  He and his wife loved to travel together, but especially their travels to Hawaii, and traveling throughout Europe with the Jerry Schneider Orchestra.

Survivors include his children: Kenneth Buechel, Gary Buechel; grandchild: Travis (Molly) Buechel; and a great grandchild: Milo Buechel.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Dorene; and his siblings: Rosemary (Tony) Sket and Ludene (Hank) Stricklen.

Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton.  A time of visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10:00 am until 11:45 am.  At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

As a fellow Marine, Lloyd and I shared stories of the Corps. Lloyd with his HAM radio helped my wife and I communicate when I was stationed in Okinawa during Vietnam War and my wife was home in Chilton. He and his dad also played in my grandpa Tony Groeschl's band in the day. A very special man and a hard worker and great Marine. God rest and peace be with you Lloyd. Our condolences to the family.

My sympathy to all of Lloyd's family. I worked beside Lloyd for almost 15 years at Farm & Home. He was a great mentor and we sure shared many laughs together. I never knew anyone that loved hot humid weather more than him! He loved his time spent in Hawaii and planes and aviation were very dear to him. May he rest in peace.

Gary and Ken. I am so sorry to hear that Lloyd has passed away. He had a great life. He was such a great neighbor always looking out for my kids and I. It was so hard to keep up with his yard. He kept it so particular. He was such a great employee at farm and home. He knew the store where everything was. And he really cared when helping you. Remember seeing him picked to play a gig with the Schneider band. Many years ago. Such great memories with your mom and dad. Now he can be with Doreen once again. Cherish all the memories. I am sorry we will be unable to attend on January 3rd. We will be in Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both and Travis. He was so young back then. Hope to run into each other some day.

May the LORD bring comfort to Lloyd's family during this difficult time. I met Lloyd in 1987 when I came to manage the Farm and Home store in Chilton. He was our assistant manager and was so well versed in the hardware business and made so many customers happy with the assistance he gave them. May he rest in Glory.

Knew Lloyd for over 40 years. He helped me get into Amateur Radio. Also got me into airplanes. Took me several times to EAA Airventure. Convinced me to become a member. I will miss our afternoon talks. 73 Dick KA9OJN

So sorry to hear of Lloyd’s passing. He was instrumental in my decision to play the drums while growing up. A lot of good times were had in the Chilton City Band with Lloyd. He was always the gentleman, and he always treated me with respect despite my young age! Godspeed Lloyd, heaven must have needed a good drummer!
