Lorelie J Nennig

Chilton WI

Lorelie J. Nennig, age 91, of Chilton, died on June 13, 2024, at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein. She was born October 27, 1932, daughter of the late Cyril and Elizabeth Stemper. On her birthday in 1954, she married Norman “Butch” Nennig and together they had eight children.

Lorelie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved visits with her family and always enjoyed decorating for the holidays when the whole family could celebrate together. Lorelie was an excellent baker; her cut-out cookies were a tradition at holidays. She was a member of Good Shepard Catholic Church. She was an avid gardener; you could always find her looking at the Jung seed catalog for something new to add to her yard. Together with her husband, their yard was beautifully landscaped with flowers of all kinds. She enjoyed going on walks around the neighborhood and stopping along the way to say a friendly hello. When Lorelie wasn’t outside tending to her garden or watching for her favorite cardinals, she could be found reading a good book, putting together a jigsaw puzzle, or watching the latest Hallmark movies. She loved when her grand-pups would come for a visit; they always knew who to sit by for a treat. She will always be remembered for her beautiful, warm smile she had for everyone, even in her final days.

Lorelie is survived by her children: Barbara Mayer, James (Char) Nennig, Judy Nennig, Nancy (Terrence) Gerhartz, Dale Nennig, Debra (Joseph) Tollefson, Dave (Donna) Nennig, and Tina Neuber; grandchildren: Kristy (Steve) Hemp, Mike (Brittany) Mayer, Cody Gerhartz, Casey Gerhartz, Mark Kander (fiancee: Sarah Guse), Shannon (Kyle) Schmidt, Brittany Brown, Colby (Katy) Nennig, Davis Nennig, Tony (Melissa) Tollefson, Angie Tollefson, Jenny (Matt) Wells, DJ Nennig (fiancee Felicia Retrum), Craig Nennig, Amanda Nennig, Danielle (Josh) Verbeten, Sam Neuber, and Abby Neuber; great-grandchildren: Savanah, Gauge, Cameron, Annabelle, Sophia, Rylee, Reese, Colin, Finn, Walker, and Teddy; siblings: Carol Puetz, Joyce (Romy) Drake, Lloyd (Sandra) Stemper, Elaine Ramirez, and Diane (Clayton) Pethan; and special friends: JoAnn Turney and Dave (Diane) Krause.

Lorelie was preceded in death by her husband, Norman “Butch”; her parents: Cyril and Elizabeth; a brother: Donald Stemper; brother-in-laws: David Puetz and David Ramirez; sister-in-law Alice Nennig; and nephews: Bob Puetz and Gary Puetz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Fr. Jon Thorsen officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 am until 12:15 pm at the church on the day of service. A committal service will take place at 3:30 pm at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton. At the time of service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch an archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein, Calumet County Hospice, and Home Instead Home Care (especially Amanda Diedrich) for the care provided to Lorelie this past year.

Since the first time Dave brought me home from college 41 years ago, your Mom was always been "mom" Nennig to me. Many people have commented on her infectious smile, but I will always remember her sweet sweet voice as she would smile and say: "hi big Dave", even when she was in the nursing home. We will all miss her, but we can also find comfort that she is now with Jesus and your Dad. What a beautiful family and legacy they left behind. Diane and I love you all.
