Lyle M Schmidt
Davenport (formerly rural Hilbert), WI

Lyle M. Schmidt, age 62, of Davenport, FL (formerly Hilbert, WI), passed away on June 26, 2022, at his home. He was born August 31, 1959, son of the late Leander and Dorothy (Thiel) Schmidt.

Lyle graduated from Hilbert High School and was a member of St. John Sacred Heart Parish.  He was raised on a farm and knew early on that he would follow his father’s footsteps.  Farming was his passion. He took pride in the work.  A day did not go by that Lyle wasn’t in the barn milking cows, or working the land, or helping his livestock give birth.

Divorced, he raised his three children all while operating Schmidt Dairy. After the farm life, Lyle moved to Florida with his sister Darlene, and enjoyed retirement. He loved having old friends and family visit him and especially loved coming home to Wisconsin to see his family.  Lyle was always up for playing chauffeur in his Cadillac, especially with his sisters. A stop at the casino was never out of the question. Admired for his love of family, aunts, uncles, second cousins, he made sure to visit them all.

Life was never easy for Lyle. He was severely burned in a farm accident as a young boy and spent the better part of a year in an induced coma. He battled mental illness and won. He battled alcoholism and won. Lyle never thought about giving up, only about fighting harder.

His children were his life, until his grandchildren came along, who then became his whole world. Only wishes of more time and memories.

Lyle is survived by his children: Lee (Lindsay) Schmidt, Sara(Glenn Eades) Schmidt, and Amanda (Chris) Endter; grandchildren: Bentlie, Aaron, Harper, Jameson, Jackson, and Memphis; siblings: Caroline (Merlin) Binstock, Judith Zastrow, Kathleen (Richard) Neitzer, Darlene Irwin, and Lorie Schwalenberg; and an uncle: Art (Jane) Thiel.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents: Leander and Dorothy; brother: Lee; granddaughter: Grace Marie; nephews: Dan, Doug, and Adam, second-nephew: Ryan, and numerous aunts and uncles.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 15, 2022 at St. John Catholic Church (N7684 County Rd. BB) in St. John. Friends may visit from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 14, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton, and again from 9:30 am until 10:45 am at the church on the day of service. A committal service will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery immediately following the funeral ceremony. We'll miss you pulling up in your Cadillac, dropping off lots of unnecessary food and hearing the same stories over and over. We’ll miss you reading and playing with the grandchildren and that laugh, we’ll miss that laugh.

We're so proud of you Dad. Thank you for giving your all for so long. Time for you to relax.

A special thanks to Lyle's dear friend, Karen. We appreciate everything you have done for our Dad.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in the name of Lyle Schmidt.
I met Lyle in 2000, when he was a handyman working with David Krivan, then Lyle worked with another man and finally went on his own. He was a Great Person, we related because we were from the same State. Lyle was a had and skilled worker. Actually I was waiting for him to stop by and complete a project. not hearing from him after 3 attempts, I new something was not right. I loved Lyle as as good friend. He spoke bout his family Up North a lot. Always looking forward to head back North in the late fall.. I guess, God's Mission was to send him earlier. I will miss you Lyle. I know you don't feel the pain in your body that you lived with for years anymore. Another Star in the sky waiting for the 2nd Judgement..

I will miss how much he loved. His hugs, his shyness, his love for kids. He was always up for a dance. I remember on my wedding day him dancing to Footloose. I love you Uncle all the way to heaven and back down.

Although I rarely saw him over the last decade or two. (Time waits for no one) I always respected and loved him as family. Once family always family.
