Marian E Graney

Town of Rantoul WI

Marian E. Graney, age 92, of the Town of Rantoul, died on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Homestead Health Services in New Holstein.  She was born November 19, 1932 in Kloten, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Gregory & Ottilia (Hanke) Neuber.  She married Robert J. Graney on May 20, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton.

Marian was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly St. Augustine Parish, where she and her husband were actively involved in parish activities. Marian gave her time and talents to the Altar Guild, mission work, and the choir.

Her heart was always given in service of others.  Marian loved to sew for her family and made countless clothes for her children, but she also used this gift in the service of missions. She made quilts to give to the Salvatorians and literally, thousands of diaper bags that were distributed throughout the world.  This mission kept her quite active and sharp as she entered her later years in life. As an excellent chef and baker, Marian made tons of Christmas cookies and candy every year for anyone and everyone who came across her path.  She tended to a large vegetable and flower garden, played Sheepshead and Bingo with friends and it wasn’t uncommon to find her listening to German Polka Music, especially songs by the Jerry Schneider Orchestra.  Marian also loved to create embroidery and craft projects as well as put together puzzles and reading books.

Survivors include her children: Ann (Tom) Schwalenberg, Laura Graney, Joseph (Dawn) Graney, Geralyn Graves; Jean (Joe) Kasper, Sara (Mark) VanFrachen; her grandchildren: Dannelle (Todd) Jacobs, Nicole (Dan) Abramovich, Katie (Heath) Budzis, Matt (Julie) Schwalenberg, Brent (Carolyn) Schwalenberg, Michael Graves, Jonathan (Sabrina) Graves, Jessica (Paul) Logan, Josh (Katelyn) Kasper, Justin (Roberta) Kasper, Jordan (Kaitlyn) Kasper; great grandchildren: Emma & Hailie Jacobs, Ivan & Nickolas Abramovich, Nora Budzis, Alex, Whitney & Zachary Logan, Adalynn, James, Greta & Teresa Kasper, Jackson & Lilah Kasper; a sister-in-law: Marlene Neuber; and a brother-in-law: Elroy “Herbie” Schreiner.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  When she lived on the farm with Bob, the “welcome” mat was always rolled out for children and grandchildren, to find their way “home” to the “green house”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Robert; and her siblings: Ralph (Doris) Neuber, David (Sharon) Neuber, Alan Neuber & Ruth Schreiner.  There is no doubt, that in Heaven, Marian is sitting at one end of the dinner table, Bob is at the other end, and there are seats along the side that will eventually be filled with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, that have all come to partake in the “feast”. What a “family reunion” it will be! It is bound to be spectacular, as Jesus will be the Host!

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jon Thorsen officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 am until 11:15 am on Saturday, December 28, 2024.  At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

Marian's diaper/all-purpose bags have delighted local new parents who received layettes of needed baby items, have traveled to many parts of Africa, the countries of Central Asia, Native Reservations in the United States, and bags continue to bless residents of nursing homes and school children in Waupaca County. What a generous woman!

Marian was a faith filled and dedicated choir member. Her years at St. Augustine and then Good Shepherd were a grateful contribution to the music programs at both parishes. I fondly remember the rehearsals when Bob would bring her to town and then do some work in the sacristy while we practiced. After practice he would always entertain us with a few jokes of the day. Such a wonderful couple. I send our condolences to the family.

I'm so happy I was able to meet Marian during her time at Homestead. She was an amazing lady who could always bring a smile to even the saddest of faces. I'm saddened by her passing and my heart goes fully out to her family. But I'm happy she is up in paradise with her husband and family. Rest in peace Marian.
