Mark "Bernie" Burg
Chilton, WI

Mark “Bernie” A. Burg, 63, of Chilton, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Bernie was the son of the late Melvin A. and Coral D. (Emery) Burg.

On October 17, 1981, Bernie married the love of his life, Kathy Matthies, at St. Augustine Parish in Chilton. He was a proud 40 year employee of Endries in Brillion, where he took his roles as supervisor and safety coordinator very seriously. He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish in Chilton.

When his children were young, Bernie was a passionate and memorable coach and spectator at his sons’ sporting events. He was a knowledgeable Packers and Badgers fan and enjoyed discussing team strategy with his sons, who knew just what to say to fire him up. Bernie loved camping and sharing stories around the fire. He could often be spotted driving through Chilton “checking town”, always with his wife by his side. In his most recent years, Bernie derived his greatest joy from his grandchildren. He cherished the time he spent with them, especially their annual family trip to White Potato Lake.

Bernie is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his three sons, Michael (Lyndsey) Burg, Andrew (Sarah) Burg, and Brian (Amber) Burg; six grandchildren, Lyla, Cameron, and Nora Burg, Calla, Hazel, and Rowan Burg, and another grandchild on the way. He is further survived by his four sisters, Barb Forstner, Kathy (Fred) Klasen, Dianne (Dave) Buechel, and Doreen (Dan) Schneider; his mother-in-law, Judy Matthies; his three sisters-in-law, Debbie (Pete) Geiser, Sandi (Ron) Kolbe, and Patti (Mike) Pickerill; and his many nieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Wayne Burg, Dennis Burg, and Steven Burg; his father-in-law, Dan Matthies; his granddaughter, Willow Burg; two nephews, Jacob Schneider and Matt Kolbe; and a niece, Stephanie Kolbe.

As a man who wore his heart on his sleeve, Bernie never missed an opportunity to tell his people how much he loved them, and he was loved by many in return. He will be deeply missed.

Bernie’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the healthcare professionals who cared for him during this time. On Bernie’s behalf, donations made to CDH International (www.cdhi.org) would be appreciated. CDH International is an organization committed to fighting congenital diaphragmatic hernia, a condition which claimed the life of his granddaughter Willow.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jon Thorson officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery in Malone.  A time of visitation will take place at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 am until 11:15 am.  A Parish Vigil Service will take place Wednesday evening at the funeral home at the conclusion of the visitation.  Those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the funeral service, watch a memorial video, or see the flowers and gifts given to Bernie's family by clicking HERE.

Larry & Barb Joas - June 30, 2022

Our most fond memory of Bernie is the time we went to a Packer Game with him and Kathy. Every time the Packers made a play, Bernie would jump up wave his arms and cheer. The lady seated behind him tapped him on the shoulder and said I can't see when you do that. Please sit down. The next play Bernie again jumped up and cheered. She again asked him to sit down. Bernie said he was sorry and sat down. On the third play Bernie again jumped up and cheered. The lady again asked him to sit down. He turned around and said "for God sake lady it's a football game".
Bernie taught us to live life with enthusiasm and passion.
Our entire family loved Bernie and will sadly miss him.

Kathy and family - my sympathy to you all. Mark was great to work with over the years at Endries. He was my goto guy for troubleshooting. My greatest memory of Mark was watching him measure a fastener before shipping to the customer - he would measure it, measure it again and one more time before sending out. May peace fill your hearts as you share your memories.

Bernie was a great teammate and friend. We all hung out together for years. Bernie drove the car once when a few of us skipped school. We got in an accident in forest junction. Bernie was pretty rattled. Worried of course about the folks. Everyone was ok. He was a dedicated teammate who made us all better. Big heart. RIP Bernie

Kathy and Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God watch over you in your time of need.
