Mary A Depies
Chilton, WI

Mary A. Depies, age 76 of Chilton passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.  She was born September 23, 1943 in Chilton, daughter of the late Ray & Alexia (Schuler) Woelfel. She graduated from Chilton High School and UW LaCrosse with an education degree and married Dale Depies on August 19, 1967 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton.
During her career as a teacher, she taught at Sauk-Prairie High School in Prairie du Sac, Neenah High School, and the Hilbert Public Schools.  As a substitute teacher, Mary also spent many years at Chilton High School and New Holstein High School.  Her last teaching assignment was at CACS in Chilton as a Spanish, Library and Computer Teacher where she volunteered as a tutor and also took on various assignments.  Dale and Mary also farmed and milked cows in the Town of Brothertown for 10 years.

She was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton where she taught confirmation classes for many years and volunteered as a communion distributor.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed time spent kayaking, canoeing, cross country skiing and creating Christmas tatting designs.  She also applied her knack for crafts to sewing and painting that have been appreciated by many family and friends in her life.  At the age of 69, Mary took a step out, literally, and tried her hand and faith at sky diving appreciating the thrill it brought.

Survivors include her husband: Dale; her children: Douglas (Mary) Depies, Dawn (John) Hammen; a grandson: Mitchell; step-grandsons: Bryce & Ian; a step-granddaughter: Hillary; 3 brothers: Robert (Rita) Woelfel, Joseph (Carol) Woelfel, Paul (Sandy) Woelfel; 2 sisters: Betty (Dave) Ludwig & Millie (Ray) Markowski; and a sister-in-law: Dee Jacobson.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Richard Woelfel.

Private family services are being held, and a public celebration of Mary's life will take place Sunday, August 2, 2020 at the Fireman's Park in Stockbridge from 2:30 pm until 5:30 pm.

Mary’s family would like to extend a warm ‘thank you’ to the nurses and staff from Ascension Hospice for all of the loving care that was given to Mary, and shown to her family.
Saddened to hear of Mary's passing. A good classmate, a very nice person, and a SKYDIVER too. My sympathy to Dale and all of Mary's family. She will be missed.

So sorry to hear of this news of Mary’s passing! She was a wonderful person and a dedicated substitute teacher for Chilton High School for so many years! She was so committed to the students of CHS and the Chilton School District from which I believe she graduated as valedictorian! A tremendous loss! The entire Depies family is in our thoughts and prayers!

My fondest memory was my summer vacations I had on the farm. I will always cherish those times. I also have to thank Mary and Dale for showing me what a good sunny side up egg is and how to make one. She will be missed, but forever in my heart.
