Mary L. Koss, age 89, of Chilton, died on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Willowdale Health & Rehab Center in New Holstein. She was born May 2, 1929 in Niagra, Wisconsin, daughter of the late John & Lucille Baker.
Following her graduation from high school, she worked at Briggs & Stratton Motors in Milwaukee for 30 years. She and her husband Archie bought the bar in Brothertown and operated Archie’s Place for 35 years until it’s closure.
She was a member of the Wisconsin Tavern League and was the consummate bar owner and bar tender. She appreciated bus trips to go play Bingo and enjoyed to draw and paint ceramics.
Survivors include her children: Russ (Sharon) Goddard, William (Cindy) Koss, Mary (Scott) Roth; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother: Alvin (Vicki) Baker and a sister: Bernice Ball. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Archie Johnson; a daughter: Sharon Bruder; and a grandchild: John Goddard.
A time of stories and memories of Mary will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Niagra, Wisconsin. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2019.
I am going to miss you Mary. You had a very nice small bar, and one of the only bars that has an older jukebox, which I loved playing. I would travel all the way from Beaver Dam just to play the Jukebox.
