Mary and Norb made Chilton their home for over 70 years

Mary graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Menasha and then went on to attend Oshkosh Normal Teachers College and received a two year teaching degree. Mary taught in a one room school in Forest Junction after receiving her two-year teaching degree in 1947. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree from U.W. Oshkosh in 1972, she went on to teach 20 years at Holy Rosary school in New Holstein.

Mary did the bookkeeping for the Shell station that Norbert operated and on occasion she had to even pump gas and drive to get parts.

She was an active gardener and loved her flower garden and the vegetables that she harvested from the garden.

Mary was very active for over 40 years in the American Legion Auxiliary where she was elected Chilton Unit president and Calumet County president. She was also a member of Good Shephard church and volunteered for several duties over the years.

Mary was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved each and every one and loved sharing in their accomplishments. She attended many family gatherings, soccer matches, concerts and other events into her 90’s.

Mary and Norb enjoyed their trips to Gulf Shores Alabama, the excitement of “winning” at the casinos and the many sunsets at their cottage in Door County.

Mary was a strong woman that believed you needed to always do your best and you lead by example. She was called the “social director’ at Waunakee Valley where she lived for seven years. She loved to play cards and sit outside and talk with her friends. Mary always was involved with activities at Waunakee Valley and loved helping others get involved.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 17, 2024, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the funeral home prior to service. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available for those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family on their website page provided through wietingfuneralhome.com

The family would like to thank Agrace hospice service and the Waunakee Valley staff for all the special care they provided mom.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Agrace Foundation, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison WI. 5371, or the Chilton  American Legion Auxiliary

I'm so sorry to read of Aunt Marie's passing. Not sure why, but we always referred to her as Aunt Marie not Mary. I remember her and Uncle Norb. Happy to see she had a long and active life. I had recently commented to my mom(Kathleen) how Aunt Marie was still sending greeting cards to family. May she rest in peace.

Dear children of Mary and Norb. My sincerest sympathy to all of you. Back in the early 1960's, my husband, Tom Meyer, worked in "Norb's Shell Station", partly because he needed the money and partly because he was a real " motor head". Your dad was a real spirited man and had many a confrontation with his rival who owned the other gas station across the street. Your Mom was mostly soft spoken, very kind and kept her focus on you kids. You have been blessed to have such great parents and being raised in such a great community as Chilton.

Saddened to read this but loved the reference of teaching in Forest Jct. as I was a student there at that time. She was a favorite teacher of mine and I remember as students we were all invited to her wedding at St. John. We thought she was beautiful as a bride and as a teacher. Teachers in those days had to open up the school, get the stove going and had all 8 grades. Quite challenging.

We have enjoyed Mary (and Norb)’s friendship over the years. We met in the American Legion/Auxiliary. She was missed when she moved away. I spent a lot of time following behind her in jobs with the Auxiliary. May she rest in peace, and have fun managing Gods garden.

Bill, Kris, Jeff, Wayne and the Euclide family, you have my sincere sympathy on the loss of your Mom. Mary brought a lot of joy to the neighborhood. I still expect her to be outside working in the yard or her beautiful garden whenever I return to Chilton to visit my Mom. Hold your memories close.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I'm so glad that I got the time that I spent with Aunt Marie and to help her out with Uncle Norb, she was the only one that I really got to know of my dad's sisters. I will always remember our little visits and our talks, one of them was how Aunt Mary became Aunt Marie. You will be forever in my heart. Love you Aunt Marie rest in peace!
