Melvin R Ecker
Fond du Lac WI
Melvin R. Ecker, age 79, of Quinney, died following a 17 year battle with cancer on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at his home in Quinney. He was born July 2, 1944 in Fond du Lac, son of the late Marvin & Martha (Pethan) Ecker.
Following his graduation from Stockbridge High School in 1963, he began working at Chilton Metal Products and for Parson Bros. Construction as well as various other places throughout the area.
He married Mary Vanden Boom on July 27, 1968 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge and later began working on the family farm milking cows. Eventually, he went into partnership with his brother, Marvin Jr., on the farm. Approximately 30 years ago, Melvin left milking cows and began Lakeshore Septic Service with his wife Mary. This was an ideal business for Mel because, as a grand talker, he was able to visit with everyone he served.
He was a life long member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge as well as the Quinney Fishing Club. He had also proudly served as president of the Stockbridge Area Business Association. Having grown up in this area, Mel knew quite a bit of the area and much of the local history which he gladly shared with anyone who asked.
In his free time, Mel could be found out on the lake sturgeon spearing or attending tractor pulls. He cherished his time on the farm and enjoyed moments tending to the land on his tractors. Melvin will fondly be remembered as a gentle, good man who loved to talk to anyone he ran into whether they were a friend or a stranger. There were occasions where he would be left behind because he was striking up a conversation or sharing one of his great stories with someone.
Above all else, Melvin cherished his family. He truly loved moments with his children, especially when he was able to DJ with his son, Jeffrey, talking farming with his son, Scott and tractors with his son, Ricci, and time spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife: Mary; his children: Scott Ecker, Jeffrey (Lisa) Ecker, Ricci (Beth Nadler) Ecker; grandchildren: Makenna Ecker and her special friend, Jacob Schmitz, Isaah Ecker, Arianna Ecker, Francis Ecker & Joette Ecker; his brothers: Michael (Jodie) Ecker, Marvin (Patricia) Ecker, Jr.; sisters: Marlene Grenzer, Mary Kay (Gary) Bancroft; a sister-in-law: Mary Ellen Ecker; and his dear friends: Coty, Caleb and Andrew. He is further survived by his Godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Merlin “Butter” Ecker; siblings-in-law: Charles Grenzer, Charles (Anna Rae) Vanden Boom and Ann Piper.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 5:00 pm on Friday, May 31, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church (Military Ave.) in Stockbridge with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Stockbridge. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 2:00 pm until 4:45 pm on Friday, May 31, 2024. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a memorial video or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.
Melvin’s family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Theda Care at Home Hospice and the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for all of the exceptional compassionate care.
Condolences
