Michael N Williams
Dec. 26, 1941 - Sept. 23, 2022
Michael N. Williams, age 80, passed away at his home in Sherwood after a long battle with arterial disease. He fought his illness with great courage. Most of all, Mike never allowed his affliction to define him or take away his legendary sense of humor.
Mike was born in Anderson, IN on December 26th, 1941, the oldest son of the late Lyle and Georgia Williams.
In childhood, Mike discovered two of his passions. The first was baseball where Mike played at the American Legion level and later in life coached youth baseball. The second, stock car racing developed from peeking through fences surrounding the Anderson Speedway. Many of Mike’s friendships were made over cars and racing.
On January 19, 1963 Mike married Sharon (Sherry) Hirschinger. They met at Indiana University where earlier, Mike jumped out of a tree to get her attention. It must have worked as they were able to celebrate almost 60yrs. of marriage.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics in 1963 from Indiana University. He also pursued his MBA from the University of Iowa, leaving two courses short to accept a professional opportunity
His work eventually brought him to Wisconsin where Mike was Vice President and part of the founding team of Unlimited Services. Mike worked there from 1982 until his retirement in 2007. Mike was proud to be part of this team and the hundreds of jobs that were created in Oconto as the company experienced steady growth. Mike was also co-founder of Wire Harness Manufacturing Association (WHMA) in 1993.
Mike and Sherry spent both pre and post retirement years as volunteers for NAMI Fox-Valley and NAMI WI. They facilitated a NAMI National course called Family-to-Family. In addition, they trained others to also facilitate the class. NAMI WI recognized Mike and Sherry with the Iris Award for their Outstanding Contribution in 2021.
Mike was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a Rotarian with the Appleton Breakfast Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, and other civic groups.
Mike enjoyed countless pursuits, travel, trips to Eagle River, boating, mystery trips with grandkids and always those enjoyable times with family, friends and Sherry where he could bring joy with his clever wit. This was all part of Mike and what made him special. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include this wife: Sherry; children: Tobin (Angel) Williams, Kate Jacobs; grandchildren: Michaela Jacobs, Ethan Williams, Avery Williams; his brother Steven (Ellen) Williams; and his siblings-in-law: Carol Hooper, Reba Williams, Chuck (Shelly) Hirschinger. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers: John (Sally) Williams and Patrick Williams.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Appleton Breakfast Rotary, Knights of Columbus and either NAMI Fox Valley or NAMI WI.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, November 14, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sherwood with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 10:45 am on Monday, November 14, 2022.

Sherry: I had the pleasure of getting to know Mike when I was in the CRHP (Christ Renews his parish) and seeing him at church when we lived in Sherwood. What a gifted and wonderful human being. May the good lord be with you and your family, and May Mike rest in the grace of God. Jim

Char and I express our sympathy to you and your family on the passing of Mike. He certainly was a very gifted person to have accomplished all the things he did and enjoying every minute of it as he did. We enjoyed the class we took with you and Mike and knowing both of you.
