Freedom WI
Patricia M. Millay, age 88, of Stockbridge, died on January 27, 2024, at Country Villa in Freedom. She was born December 30, 1935, daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Diedrich. On November 28, 1974, she married James Millay in Las Vegas.
Patricia was a woman of faith, a member at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge where she was a part of the Christian Mothers group. She enjoyed praying the rosary and kept a rosary under her pillow and on her nightstand. She was a lovable person with a big, infectious smile. She loved spending every moment with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Cribbage, Sheepshead, computer games, and doing puzzles. She liked listening to music and singing songs, and having a little bit of ice cream before bed. She had fun bowling in leagues, miniature bowling at The Fish Tail, and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Patricia is survived by her children: Jeffrey (Celia) Engel, Daniel (Rhonda) Engel, Julie (Duane) Zahn, Greg Engel, Tony Engel, Mary Jo (Keith) Glass, Tina (Brad) Burg, Todd Engel, Marie Millay (Warren) Bane, and Barb Millay Schell (John Preston); 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters: Nancy (Bob) Wilson, Shirley (Kay) Hostettler, Janet (Gary) Steimetz, Carol Sneath, and Mary Beth (Daryl) Kingsley.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents: Elmer and Mary; a son: Rob Engel; a sister: Betty Diedrich; a brother: Donny Diedrich; a son-in-law: Greg Schell; sisters-in-law: Joan (Duane) Mitchell, Grace (Harold) Freund, and Catherine (Dan) Albedyll; and brothers-in-law: Justin (Kaye) Millay, Raymond (Joyce) Millay, and Edward Millay.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church (120 Davis St.) in Stockbridge with Fr. Michael Betley officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 pm until 3:45 pm at the church on the day of service. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available for those wishing to watch a live stream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family on their website page provided through wietingfuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Special Olympics be made in the name of Todd Engel.
Condolences
In the summer of 2022, I assisted the Engel family by caretaking for Patricia. She had so many funny comments as we spent some eleven days together. Truly, the legacy of her life was her children; and later -- their children. The following quote prompted me to recall her vivacious spirit. May the holy family now welcome her into eternal life! "When we are gone, and people weep for us and grieve is it because we touched their lives with beauty and simplicity? Let it not be said that life was good to us, but, rather, that we were good to life." -Jacob Rudin

I am so joyful for Aunt Pat. She has joined our Lord Savior and knows peace and love beyond any of our comprehension. That being said, it is time to celebrate her life and what a life she had! We are all witnesses to her kind, loving heart and her infectious sense of humor. She made us all laugh until we wet ourselves more than once. May we all who are left behind find peace in her long, happy life not without suffering, but that she suffers no more. As tears come to our eyes and our hearts ache for her, she is with us all.

Sending our deepest sympathies to the family. Like JoAnne, we too have so many great memories of Aunt Pat & Uncle Jimmy. Lots of laughs and family time. Fish fries at my childhood home in FDL always included playing cards and having a few cocktails. Pat had a great smile and was so sweet. I will cherish those memories. Hope you find comfort knowing how very loved she was. - Al & Sandy

On behalf of the Albedyll family, we wanted to offer our deepest condolences. Pat was such a kind person with a big smile. We remember her and Uncle Jimmy at the house playing cards, drinking beer and laughing with the rest of the Millays! Again we are so sorry for your loss.

Godmother Like stars that shine in the heavens, A Godmother's endless love, Lights the way for her godchild, As the Lord gives a nod from above! She was chosen because of her goodness, And too, for her gentle side, But also because her godchild, Could view her with love & with pride.. For she is a perfect example Of all that a person should be, A kind and a caring guardian, Standing by for eternity!

We want to thank you for sharing your lovely mother with us by having her spend time with all of us up north in Bonduel, Wisconsin. Pat was was a great lady and full of spunk. She definitely raised some wonderful kids that we are happy to call our friends. We are so sorry for your loss but glad to have gotten to know her and all of you! Dear family, 1 Thessalonians 4:13 Believers Who Have Died Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. When we met Pat, there was nothing but hope in her smile… may she rest in peace in our Father’s arms?

My sympathy to Pat's family. I was in Pat's 1953 graduation class from Stockbridge High School. We had lots of memories from that time in our lives. I was Shirley Birk back then. Shirley (Birk) Ziegenbein

I have a message for all of my cousins, and really all who were fortunate enough to have known Aunt Pat. We are very much richer in our hearts, we are much stronger in our hearts, and we are many times over more loving with our hearts, because of the examples she set. She didn't lecture, or falter, or hide. She SHOWED us how to move forward, even if the whole world was trying to hold her down. Repeatedly, her whole life was dedicated to the fact that NO ONE, or no hundred, can stop us from loving. I saw it when I was very young, I saw it when I was a young adult, and I heard about it my entire life. She didn't stop loving. Ever . Remember that, if nothing else. She didn't know how to quit. It didn't make her life easier for her, in fact the opposite, but that never mattered to Aunt Pat. What mattered to her was that it made life easier for those around her. We were all blessed in her presence, and the amount of energy that took to accomplish still staggers me. May we all accomplish something similar in our lifetime!! She can enjoy her reward with the Lord without reservation, fully and joyfully, and we can rejoice for her, fully and joyfully, because we are aware of how much she deserves it !! To her children, grandchildren, and sisters, our hearts are open and flooding with tears, the tears of heartache that she won't be here among us. Please remember, Heaven is flooding with the tears of joy of All of the Saints, because she is There. May we all be so privileged in our lives!!! And all of the Lord's people say, Amen !! Love you all, stay strong, you've had the Perfect example.
