Phyllis V Hoerl
Phyllis V. Hoerl, age 83, of Chilton, died Tuesday, June 18th at Alpha Senior Concepts of Green Bay. She was born April 8th, 1936, in Germantown, WI, daughter of late Robert and Mabel Phillips. She was three times a widow. She married Lester Garbisch on October 29th, 1952 at David Star Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on May 26th, 1971. Phyllis married Frederick December 14th, 1973, at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein. He preceded her in death on May 11th, 1974. Phyllis married Melvin Hoerl on September 17th, 1976. He preceded her in death on February 7th, 1994. Phyllis spent the remainder of her years in companionship with Ruben Seurer. He preceded her in death on February 14th, 2019.
Phyllis was a warm, loving, and strong independent woman, amidst all of the heartache she endured over the years. She had a good heart and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed spending as much time out in the sun as possible. If the sun was shining, you would find her sitting outside bird and squirrel watching. Her idea of a good time on the weekend involved vodka martinis and dancing and listening to polka music, especially The Jerry Schneider Band. She enjoyed local festivities and loved to spend time in Door County.
Phyllis worked in various industries throughout her life. She became known as “Rosie the Riveter” during her work in a local shoe factory. She has also worked in food service including the meat department at Piggly Wiggly and at McDonalds. Phyllis was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed the sense of community.
More than anything, she was happy to be able to help raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren, serving as a second mother for several of her grandchildren. Her door was always open and her ears were always ready. In her retired years, she cherished her great grandchildren, spending all the time she could babysitting.
Phyllis is survived by her children: Steve (Mary) Garbisch, Scott (Cyndi) Garbisch, and Mark (Lynn) Garbisch; ten grandchildren: Sandy (David) Howe, Andy (Maria) Garbisch, Vanessa Garbisch, Tabitha (Nathan) Schneider, Rebecca (James) Nennig, Theodore (Raechel) Garbisch, Veronica Garbisch, Samantha Garbisch, Thomas (Kaylee) Garbisch, Jessica (Adam) Whitcomb; a step-grandchild, Ron; 18 great grandchildren; and two sisters: Wilodean Kowalke and Linda (Dave) Boesch.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husbands: Lester, Frederick, and Melvin. Her parents: Mabel & Robert; and her grandchild: Timothy Garbisch.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or charity of your choosing.
