Richard Allen "Turk" Mortimer
Kearns, UT

Turk Mortimer, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away in his home in Kearns, Utah, on November 13, 2018 at the age of 81.

Turk was born on September 6, 1937 in Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin to Vance and Jeanette Mortimer. Raised in Chilton, Wisconsin, he spent his childhood getting into small-town mischief, working in the tavern his father owned, and summers working on his grandparents’ farm. He graduated in 1955 from Chilton High School and enlisted in the US Navy shortly after. Turk proudly served his country in the US Navy and had the opportunity to travel the world aboard the USS Essex CVA-9 aircraft carrier. After his time in the Navy his travels and adventures took him to Utah where he met and married his wife, the love of his life, Sandy, on August 22, 1975.

Turk was a master caulker by trade; he had a great sense of pride in the work he contributed to many buildings in Utah and across the US during his career. Outside of work Turk loved to spend time with his family. He was a dedicated father, coach, and supporter - spending many hours at the baseball fields watching, coaching, and grounds keeping as well as many hours at the karate studio watching, chatting, and cheering. He enjoyed working with his hands and while the kids were young, “helping” them build the fanciest pinewood derby cars of the time.

Later in life he spent his time fishing, reading, supporting the Utah Jazz and Green Bay Packers, and taking his dog, Ben to the dog park. He looked forward to his annual vacations with Sandy and always enjoyed time spent time with his family.

Turk will be forever remembered by his wife of 43 years, Sandy; his sons, Vance (Natalie) Mortimer and Allan (Skye) Mortimer; and granddaughters, Emerie and Austin. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Raymond “Pete” Mortimer; sister, Mary; and his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Services were held Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 12 Noon, at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah with a viewing from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery.

“We love you Turk!”
