Richard (Dick) Gast, age 63, of Hilbert, passed away on March 2nd, 2021. He passed peacefully at his home with family by his side after his fight with cancer.

Dick was born Oct. 5th, 1957, in Chilton, son of the late Donald and Jeanne (Zuelzke) Gast. He married Amy Mathes on March 10th, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dick proudly served in the National Guard for six years until 1981 when he was honorably discharged. He worked with his dad at Favorite Printing and eventually took over the business until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert. Dick was a simple, kind hearted, easy going and giving man. He was the go-to guy for anything, a jack of all trades, helping many family and friends with projects. If he didn't know he would figure it out. He was always there for his girls with love, patience, support and advice when needed. He loved and was proud to be Papa to granddaughter Annabella. Dick enjoyed spending time up north at the "3D Shack". Many great times were had there with family and friends, especially neighbor Jack Verdegan and his family. He also made time to go out to the farm to play with his tractor.

Survivors include his wife: Amy; his children: Kimberlee Gast and her special friend, Justin, Sheila Vanderlinden and her special friend, Troy; a grandchild: Annabella Vanderlinden; siblings: Pat (Lori) Gast, Mike (Gail) Gast, Ron “Worm” (Betsy) Gast, Julie (Chuck) Feider, Kathy (Randy) Boesch, Dan (Lynn) Gast, Peggy (Curt) Denny; his in-laws:  Jim Mathes, Steve (Kim) Mathes, Dave Mathes & Brian (Laurie) Mathes; and his God-Children: Martina Gast & Brad Gast.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Don and Jeanne Gast, in-laws: Bob and Rita Mathes;  and niece: Michelle Mathes.

A funeral service will be at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 8, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church (108 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert with Rev. Michael Betley officiating.  Friends may call at the church from 12:00 pm until 2:45 pm on Monday, March 8, 2021.  Face masks are required. Dick’s family would like to thank the Calumet County Home Care and Hospice, especially Nicole & Holly, for all of the loving care that was given to Dick and his entire family.
My deepest sympathy to the entire Gast family. Forever in my heart.
