Robert E Rieder
Chilton, WI

Robert E. Rieder, age 85, of Chilton, died on May 3, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born May 25, 1935, son of the late Gilbert and Ludwina Rieder. He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1953 and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later married Jean Pieper and they had six children.

Robert was a supervisor at Tecumseh for over 30 years. In his spare time and after retiring he enjoyed traveling with Jean, although his favorite trip was the Honor Flight he was able to take to Washington D.C. in 2018. He spent hours driving just enjoying the scenery and his favorite ride was his black ’65 Mustang. He liked driving so much that he helped the Vande Hey dealership move their cars and mowed lawn at Hickory Hills during his retirement. For many years he was an alderman on the city council and a member of the planning committee. He was a member at the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish and volunteered for the Salvation Army. He always followed the sports his children and grandchildren were in, and he kept himself active through bowling and golfing on men’s leagues and couple’s leagues with Jean.

Robert is survived by his wife, Jean; his children: Scott (Phyllis) Rieder, Debbie (Tom) Deere, Robert (Patti) Rieder, Todd Rieder, Lori (Roger) Jandrey, and Jason (Susan) Rieder; 20 grandchildren: Kourtney (Brad), Chandler, Rob, Katie (Ben), Seth, Brea, Alex (Lindsay), Natalie (Paul), Bobby, Kayla, Emily, Tyler, Jennifer, Randi, Ethan (Mackenzie), Isaac, Zachary, Alyssa, Mara, and Nevaeha; 11 great-grandchildren: Caleb, Emma, Addie, Jacelynn, Keanu, Laurel, Lauren, and Charlie; and a sister-in-law: Janice Rieder.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Ludwina; brothers: Gordon Rieder and Ronald (Janet) Rieder; sister: Delores Rieder; three grandchildren: Jarid, Josh, and Ashley; and Jean’s parents: Eldon and Althea Pieper.

A mass of Christian burial is set for 11:00am on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. A committal service will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton immediately following the funeral, and vigil prayers will be held at the conclusion of visitation on Friday evening.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in the name of Robert Rieder.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton and to the staff at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.

I always enjoyed his almost daily visits in here. He always was a happy person and brought joy and laughs with him. I'm sorry for everyone's loss of a really great person. It was great to get to know him and he will be truly missed.

John & Gladys (Dear friends) - May 5, 2021

I really enjoyed our conversations when Bob came in for a haircut. Also Bill and I enjoyed golfing with Bob and Jean on couple's league. He will be missed.

Lois Wagner-Forstne (Friend and Barber) - May 4, 2021

Bob was a class guy. He was the guy that owned the greatest arena in all of Chilton. On any Summer or Fall day, or any winter night the kids in the neighborhood, and sometimes the city, had a place to meet and play baseball, football, or sled across his snowy field. Thank you Bob. RIP. Thanks to the Reider family. You are in my prayers.

Mike Hoffmann (Neighbor) - May 4, 2021
