Robert J Heus

Chilton WI

Robert J. “Doc” Heus, of rural Chilton passed away on October 22, 2024.  He was born June 8, 1949, into the loving family of the late Clifford and Dorothy (Beumler) Heus.  His 1950’s childhood in St. Anna included the simple joys of crawdad fishing with bologna tied to a stick, hide and seek and baseball.  He also went on vet calls with Dr. Jim Walsdorf, who taught Bob lots about caring for animals, along with the importance of saving money.  When Jim saw Bob scoot directly to Schmitz’s candy counter with his daily pay, he directed him to save half of the money.

Bob graduated from Kiel High School as class president in 1967.

He also earned a Moraine Park Technical College degree in mechanics.

In 1968, Bob married Linda Barta.  Their life was interesting as Bob was continuously on the lookout for new things to see and do!

He was very proud of his two sons, Jim and Andy.  Bob respected their accomplishments and the fact that they are both kind, responsible and eagerly learned mechanical competence from him.  They both say: “Dad was always there for me!  Also, aided me with woodworking, auto body work and the mechanical education.”

His grandson, Dominic, was Bob’s pride and joy!  Dominic thanks Papa for teaching him the mechanical skills that contributed to his pursuing an engineering degree.  Now he works at a job where he utilizes that education.  Both Bob and Dominic shared a passion for movies, always followed by critiquing the film over dinner.

Bob was a Renaissance Man with a wide range of talents from art to welding.

An inventor: the Atractor - an aftermarket part for J.D. Tractors; sold to his customers through the Steiner Tractor Parts catalog.

He was famous in his families for his perfect cold shrimp recipe (Spotted Cow & caraway Shhh) and the directions for his tender gizzards have been passed down to Dominic.

Doc was known throughout the area as a skilled and knowledgeable tractor mechanic and a Good Guy!  He owned and operated Heus Enterprise.  In later years it was Mark Monson working with him that allowed Doc to keep the shop open.  Previously he had positions with Riesterer & Schnell.  He was still enjoying monthly breakfasts with some of the 1970’s  & 80’s team.

Through the years, his family enjoyed snowmobiling, vacation trips and fun at the Walsdorf cottage, Thank You Ruth.

Bob and Linda were very fortunate; they took many extended vacations, meandering with a camper from coast to coast and a few times to Alaska.

For decades, Doc’s routine included going out for breakfast (or lunch) to eat, but also to enjoy the company and conversation of good friends.

Both he and Linda had fun and looked forward to the next exhilarating ride and camaraderie with the Gold Wing motorcycle group.

He is survived by his wife: Linda; sons: Jim (April) Heus, Andy Heus; and a grandson: Dominic.  He is further survived by his brothers: Tony (Mary Ellen) Heus, David (Shorty) Heus; a sister: Mary Burnett; sisters-in-law: Sue (Davy) Washnesky, Diane Marta, Helen Dentz Barta; and his nieces and nephews who he always looked forward to seeing and visiting with.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Clifford & Dorothy Heus; his parents-in-law: Vern & Bea Barta; brothers: Cliff and Steve Heus; a sister-in-law: Pam Barta; and a brother-in-law: Brian Barta.

A celebration of Doc's life will be held on December 1, 2024 at the Millhome Supper Club (16524 Lax Chapel Rd.) in Kiel beginning at 12:00 Noon until 4:00 pm.
