Robert L. Boll, age 85, of Chilton, passed away on August 24, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born on October 13, 1940, in the Town of Charlestown, son of the late Norman and Lillian Boll. He graduated from Chilton High School in 1959. On June 27th, 1964, Bob married Shirley Maile at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion where he remained a member up until his passing.
Together the couple had three children. On Bob’s stone, it says it all...there is a little heart on top and when the salesman asked what he would like in that heart, Bob piped up and said "Bob loves Shirley". And there you have it!
Bob was a man of faith, character, charm and wit. His work ethic was impeccable and nothing short of perfection. He could find a way to fix just about anything. “It probably wasn’t the right way, but it worked,” he often said.
Bob worked for 28 years at Manorette Company in Chilton, building travel trailers. Although he was wearing all the hats prior, he officially became the general manager for the last 10 years the company was in business. After the business closed in 1987, he went to work at Chilton Trailers, where he remained until his retirement around 2005.
As Bob and Shirley raised their family, he introduced them to his love of snowmobiling. He enjoyed snowmobiling with friends and family and, in the early years, served as director of the Calumet County Snow Riders-Chilton Chapter.
Bob was a bit of a daredevil and enjoyed stock car racing, belonging to the Eastern Wisconsin Racing Association in Chilton and Plymouth earlier in his life. He also tried his skill at ice racing. Heck, Bob even raced a few ostriches at the Calumet County fairgrounds!
Later, Bob and Shirley discovered their love for camping, so much they camped for the next 36 years, putting in the books just last year. Many fond memories were made with family and friends!
Bob always had time to help others. He spent a few years on the family farm, cash cropping and doing custom cultivating for area farmers and bartended at his parents’ tavern, Boll’s Midway in Hayton. Most importantly, he always had time to help his children.
Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Gary Boll, Dan (Kris) Boll, and Sandy Marx; grandchildren: Lily (Dustin) Bellow, Emily Boll (special friend Kaden Bennin), Brandon Marx, Alexis Marx, Autumn Marx, and Addison Marx; great-granddaughter, Oakley Bellow; siblings, Evelyn (Mike) Maus, Ruthie (Kenny) Luchterhand, Audrey (Richard) Schmidt, and John (Lucy) Boll; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Elliot Maile, Mel Maile, Cordy (Bob) Krummel, Dennis (Lee Ann) Maile, Laurie (Kelly) Behnke; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Norman and Lillian; a granddaughter; Ashley Bankenbusch; Shirley’s parents, Walter and Cordula Maile; siblings: Ronelda Boll and Richard Boll; and brothers- and sisters-in-laws, Donna Maile, Ron Maile, Robin Maile, Mary Maile, Dorothy Maile, and Randy Allen.
The family is planning private events in honor of Robert.

Shirley and family. So sad to hear of Bob’s passing. Remember back in ‘65 when you and Bob were our first neighbors. That’s 60 years ago of how our friendship started. Bob was so amazingly down to earth, fun and hard working. I’m sure he and Bill are having a beer in heaven and talking about the good old days. Bob worked many years at Chilton Trailers with my husband Tom. I can't stress enough how much Tom respected and like Bob. Hope they can share a beer together in heaven like they did after work at times.??

I will always be grateful for Bob and Shirley Boll as they helped me when I needed it on August 10, 1968 as witnesses for my wedding. They are both salt of the earth people and I look forward to spending time in heaven around a campfire perhaps renewing our friendship.

Shirley & family,my most heartfelt sympathies on the passing of Bob. Such a kind & soft spoken man & a great neighbor always willing to help. Hard to believe this hard working man was taken so quickly as he was still climbing ladders & doing many things men half his age could do.I always admired how Bob could back the camper in as straight as could be.
