Robert T Spain, Sr.
Stockbridge, WI

Robert “Bob” Theodore Spain, age 89, of Stockbridge, passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2021, after a long fight with dementia, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born October 18, 1932, to William and Nelly Spain, in Morrilton, AR. Bob graduated from high school and enlisted in the US Navy in 1950, where he served in the Korean War as a Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class, until he was Honorably Discharged in 1953. Bob had 3 beautiful children throughout his early years, and lived in many beautiful places, until he established his roots in Stockbridge in 1975. Bob opened his first business, Bob’s Cove Shop, in Stockbridge in the late 1970’s, making hand-crafted, custom countertops for homes and businesses all over the state. He was married to his late wife, Debra A Schmunck-Spain on August 12, 1995, expanding his wonderful family with the addition of her 4 children.

Bob was a hard-working, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, making music, the outdoors, fishing, gardening with his wife, and bird hunting with his many beloved bird dogs. Bob had made countless friends over the years through his musician days and running his countertop business. He treasured his time at Bob’s Cove Shop, as he got to work with his son and his wife by his side until 2003. Bob also loved his music; he played lead guitar and sang in multiple bands like The Mustangers with his brother Dick Spain, Dale Kranke, and Ronnie Peas, and The Muleskinners with his son Rob and Billy Doxtator. You would always find Bob tapping a beat or humming a tune and could catch him dancing a jig from time to time. He had such a full spirit in life, and even as his illness progressed in his later years, he continued to laugh and joke at family gatherings bringing joy and happiness to everyone around him.

Bob touched the lives of so many people, and for those that knew him well, “Damn it,” we will never forget him or the happiness he brought to our lives. From listening to his music, all the funny stories he would share, and the life lessons he bestowed on those that needed them, Bob will live on forever in our hearts.

Bob was preceded in death by his Parents, William(Nelly) Spain; Siblings: Neil(Clara) Spain, Dorthy(Kenneth) Ashlin, Cleo(Dink)(Gladys) Spain; and other family: Brenda Spain, Robert Brenneman, Lin Brenneman, James Ketchum, Terry (Fuji) Thiel.

Bob was followed in death by his Wife, Debra A Schmunck-Spain
