Rosemary "Rosie" Sweere

Hilbert WI

Rosemary “Roșie” Sweere, age 86, of Hilbert, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones at Thedacare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. She was born September 24, 1938 in Appleton, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Diedrich) Marx.

Following her graduation from Hilbert High School, Rosie married Duane Sweere on November 9, 1957 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert.  For nearly 68 years they remained hand in hand cherishing their lives together.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert where she was actively involved with the Christian Mothers.  Rosie was an integral part of the church and volunteered countless hours helping with many church groups and activities.  She also enjoyed being a member of the Calumet County Homemakers for many years.

Early in her life, she worked at General Telephone Company as a switch board operator.  Later on, she worked at Sippel’s Drive-In. Eventually she began working at the local flower shop before becoming the owner and operator of Hilbert House of Flowers in Hilbert which she operated until 1996.  Her passion for floral design remained strong, so she lent her skills working for Sherwood Florist for several years following.

Rosie was an excellent crafter who took great pride in creating family heirlooms with her hands.  She especially enjoyed crocheting and making quilts for all of the members of her family.  In the kitchen, Rosie was known to create delicious dishes and was well known for her baking of delectable creations.

As someone who would never pass up a good trip, Rosie looked forward to times of travel with Duane, even the occasional “Mystery Tour”.  For over 20 years, they wintered together at Tip-O-Texas where they were able to relax, have fun and meet new friends.  Although she was involved in so many things throughout her community, her primary focus was raising and caring for their six children.  When her grandchildren and later her great grandchildren began arriving, Rosie went out of her way to make sure to spoil them every chance she had.  It brought her great joy to have her family around her where they could talk, laugh, and play cards or any other of her favorite games.

Survivors include her husband: Duane Sweere; her children: Cindy (Mark) Offenstein, Doug (Mary) Sweere, Dean (Janice) Sweere, Dale (Tiarr) Sweere, Dennis (Renee) Sweere, Carrie (Brent) Lavin; grandchildren: Kiley (Keith), Sadie, Nathan (Cara), Thaddeus (Marlee), Natalie (Tom), Shannon (Robert), Trisha (Brian), Adam (Erica) Aaron (fiancée Ashley), Derek, Megan, Brynn, Emma, Benjamin (fiancée Becca), Vada (Will), Jett, Allison (Reece), Luke, Austin, Cole, Skylar, Raeya; great grandchildren: Liam, Levi, Elle, Everly, Atlas,  Farryn, Dominic, Vivian, Haven, Chase, Kennedy; her siblings-in-law: Beatrice Berrens, Margaret “Toots” (Al) Krueger, Anita (Fred) Harder, Bob (Mary) Sweere, Hank (Donna) Sweere, Audrey Roepke.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law: John and Margaret Sweere; and infant grandchild: Addy; and her siblings-in-law: Clarence (Virginia) Sweere, James (Cecilia) Sweere, Jack (Mona) Sweere, Alice (Eugene) Vercauteren, Eugene Sweere, Judy (Ken) Sommerhalder, Joe Berrens, Mark Ritzke.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare who selflessly cared for her during her hospital stays over the past several months.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church (108 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert with Rev. Michael Betley officiating.  Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 am until 10:30 am.  There will be a Parish Vigil Service held on Tuesday evening at the Wieting Family Funeral Home at the close of the visitation.  At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a livestream or archived recording of the service, watch a memorial video or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rosie’s favorite charity, St Jude’s Hospital.
