Sheila Hephner

Chilton WI

Sheila Hephner, age 90, of Chilton, died on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Meadowbrook Assisted Living in Appleton.  She was born June 16, 1933 in Nipigon, Ontario, daughter of the late Ambrose & Mabel (Sutton) Martin.  Sheila married Marshall Joseph Hephner, Jr. on July 20, 1949 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chilton; he preceded her in death on February 3, 1991.

Sheila cherished her Catholic faith and was devoted to praying the Rosary daily.  She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly St. Augustine Parish, and was involved in the Irish Road 4-H Club.  Proud of her Native American heritage, Sheila was a member of the Red Rock Indian Band.

In her free time, she enjoyed working on puzzles, playing cards, making delicious home cooked meals, and cheering on her favorite sports teams.  She loved to knit and sew, not just for herself and her family, but anyone in need.  She looked forward to volunteering at the St. Augustine’s rummage sales with her dear friends Angie and Delores Hephner. Sheila fully embraced motherhood and was proud to be a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.  Throughout the years, she and Marshall graciously opened their home to anyone in need. She was “Granny” to everyone. She never passed up opportunities to attend family events and was always the biggest supporter of her grandchildren in all of their endeavors.

Survivors include her 10 children: Beverly St. John, Bennett (Heather) Hephner, Belinda (Dave) Brown, Betsy (Ron) Gast, Brenda (Michel) Fortier, Benita (John) Dohr, Bernice Heimann, Marshall (Sandra) Hephner III, Todd Hephner, and Glen (Rachel) Hephner; 27 grandchildren: Bernard, Eric, Troy, Debra, Lera, Amy, Jesse, Alan, Carrie, Evan, Katrina, Justin, William, Martina, Teralyn, Meaghen, Hazel, Darrell, Shardae, Melissa, Jessica, Lorissa, Sheila, Tashina, Sarah, Marshall IV, and Mariah; 47 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. There are many more step-grandchildren that she embraced as her own.

She is also survived by in-laws Art and Barbara Hephner, Kay Hephner, and Margaret Martin, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons-in-law Bernard Propson Sr. and John Heimann; grandchild Maria Hephner; siblings Joan (Hans) Hogan, Lawrence (Ruby) Martin, Bennett Martin, Ivan (Gabrielle) Martin, William Martin, Lita (Claude) Godin, Glenda (Patrick) Haskell, and Sharon (Paul) Nyman; and in-laws Berdella McGrath, Gervase Hephner, and Patrick (Donna) Hephner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with Revs. Jon Thorson & John Hephner concelebrating.  Burial will be in the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Chilton.  A time of visitation will be held at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, and on Thursday at the Church from 10:30 am to 11:15 am.  There will be a vigil service held at the funeral home Wednesday evening at the close of the visitation.  At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available for those wishing to watch a livestream or archived recording of the service and a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

Sheila’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Meadowbrook along with Bristol Hospice, especially Christine and Beverly for their care to both Sheila and her family.  They would also like to extend a warm thank you to Sheila’s caregiver, Holly, for her generous time and the comfort she brought to Sheila.
