Shirley D Freund

Brothertown WI

Shirley D. Freund, age 78, of Brothertown, died on April 2, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. She was born July 12, 1945, daughter of the late Henry and Viola (Boehnlein) Broeckel. She attended grade school in Charlesburg and graduated from Chilton High School.

Shirley met Lester Freund at a wedding dance in Potter, he not knowing she was 10 years younger than him. Once he found out he left her alone but Shirley chased him for a few years, when she said he finally gave up and let her catch him. They were the loves of each other’s life, and on May 9, 1964, she married Lester and together they had three children.

Shirley kept books for Lester’s trucking company, and also did factory work at Foley Aluminum Products until Foley closed. She was a member of Holy Trinity in Jericho and then Good Shepherd in Chilton. She liked riding in their ’65 Mercury and was a huge fan of Elvis, the Brewers, and the Packers.  She enjoyed feeding & watching the stray cats that came on their deck through the patio door.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren especially when she beat them at cards or games.

Shirley is survived by her children: Connie (Tom) Krebsbach, Larry Freund (special friend, Deb Beyer), and Chuck Freund; grandchildren: Stacy Krebsbach (fiancé, Adam Ecker) and Kelly Krebsbach (special friend, Casey Josephs); and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents: Henry and Viola; siblings: Elmer (Ruth) Broeckel, Doris (Claude) Knaus, and LeRoy (Dorothy) Broeckel; Lester’s parents: Edward and Jennie Freund; sisters-in-law: Marian Freund and Valeria (Bernard) Kurscheidt; a special niece: Kathy Broeckel-Drews; and godchild: Paul Kurscheidt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 5:45 pm at the church on the day of service. At the time of the service and following, there will be a link available above for those wishing to watch a recording of the service, watch a memorial video, or see pictures of the flowers and gifts given to the family.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Homestead Health Services - especially Diane, T, and Linda - and visitors who came to see Shirley, especially her special friend: Patti Lisowe; nephew: Don Knaus; and niece: Lori Anderson.  Shirley really looked forward to and enjoyed Patti's Tuesday visits, Lori's Sunday visits and Don's weekly visits.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in the name of Shirley Freund. Memorials can be sent to the Wieting Family Funeral Home c/o Shirley Freund 411 W. Main St. Chilton, WI 53014

Condolences

My fondest memory of Shirley is of her playing the stump fiddle at Andy and Ginny's bar in Brothertown back in the 70's. She sure knew how to have fun!!!. You and Lester will be missed.

To Connie, Larry, Chuck and families. To lose both parents in a short time must be incredible pain. I know talking to Shirley last month that she really missed Lester and I could feel and see the pain in her eyes. Not only is she seeing Lester again she is reunited with all her siblings, her Mom and especially her Dad who she hasn’t seen in over 75 years. Can you image that feeling? I remember the good times spent with Shirley from fishing at the bridge to playing poker many years ago and to all the holidays we spent together. I know Shirley and Lester helped my Dad as much as they could when my siblings and I lost our Mom 50 years ago and we are always thankful for that. The pain runs deep now, the tears will flow and that it OK. Remember the great times you shared with your Mom and hold them close to your heart. May God bless Shirley and the ones she left behind.
