Stanley Earl Petts, 83, of New Holstein, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at BayCare Hospital in Green Bay, after a fourteen month battle with lung cancer.
Stan was born on December 11, 1940 in Eagle River. He served in the U.S. Army from January 15, 1962, until January 17, 1965. He graduated from “Jump School” and was part of the 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Benning, Georgia. In 1963 his unit formed the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Okinawa, where he served as a paratrooper until 1965. At the time of his discharge he had acquired the rank of Sargent. Before returning to the States, he was given the opportunity to re-enlist. He chose not to, and a month later his unit was deployed to Vietnam. His unit suffered 60% casualties. The rest is history.
On June 10, 1979, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton, Wisconsin, he married Marjorie Staats. Stan is survived by his wife and soulmate, Marjorie. Children Alana, Stanley, Jr. (Shelley), Mark (Molly), Melissa (Travis), and Monica. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Bethany, Aubrey, Christine (Bill), Julia (Kyle), Lily, Ava, Claire, Katy and Asher, and two great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Gladys and Helen. Many nieces and nephews, including special nephew John Adkins and close friend Matthew Garni. Sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn Siebert (William), and Tim Staats (Carol).
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, George Petts and Christine (Thomas) Petts, Father and mother- in-law Reuben and Helen Staats, brothers Robert, George, Leo and John. Sisters Mae, Celia, and Francis.
Stan was a pre-cast mason all his life. He was employed by Advance Cast Stone Company in Random Lake for over 35 years, working for three generations of the same owners. Most of the work he did was in the Chicago area, and Milwaukee, working on high-rise buildings.
A celebration of Stan’s life will be held in October in Conover, Wisconsin, including military honors, and followed by the spreading of his ashes under a tree where he grew up in the Eagle River area. The ashes of his four brothers are also under this same tree.
Wieting Family Funeral Home in Chilton is serving the family.

Grandpa You had many titles in this life but you will forever be my only grandpa. I look back on the years I got to spend in Wisconsin and o can only feel thankful. Thankful that my children will get to look back on all these memories and know exactly who you are. I’m blessed to have given you great grandchildren. I will cherish every memory, every story, every laugh, every second. Those years were full of nothing but love. Thank you for always sharing your life story when I asked. I couldn’t be prouder for my son to forever carry on your name, your legacy. I will be reminded of you everytime I look at my dad because he looks so much like you. I love you grandpa. I can’t wait til the day we meet again.
