Sylvia Eileen Moehn
Stockbridge, WI

On June 24, 2018, Sylvia Eileen Moehn, nee De La Hunt, passed away peacefully at St. Paul Elder Services Facility in Kaukauna, Wisconsin.

The eldest of three children, Sylvia was born on June 24, 1925 to the late John & Vivian (Parsons) De La Hunt of Stockbridge, Wisconsin.  She grew up in Stockbridge, graduated from Stockbridge High School and attended the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.

She married Matthew Moehn on June 7, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge. They had seventy-one years and seventeen days together; they were truly two halves of one whole.

Sylvia was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge where she was also a member of the Christian Mother Society.  She had served as President of the organization and volunteered countless hours on many parish committees.  Sylvia was an avid Bridge player who participated in Tournament Bridge and enjoyed playing with her and Matt’s many friends.  Sylvia had thoroughly appreciated working several years for Dr. John Knauf at his clinic in Stockbridge.  In her free time, she enjoyed decorating her home, tickling the ivory on her piano and traveling throughout the United States and abroad with her husband, Matt.  Above all else, Sylvia adored her family and cherished every moment she had with each and every one of them.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Matthew and their children: Lawrence and Patricia (Byers) Moehn of Houston, Texas and their children, Jason, Jeremiah, Justin and Jarrett.  Kathleen (Eugene) Hayes of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and their children, Kelly Diederich, Megan (Brady) Forrestal, Erin (William) Kenneally, Molly (Andrew) Ceelen and Matthew.  Eileen Caldwell and her children, Katherine (Aly) Diop and Regina (Daniel) Stowers. Barbara (James) Schwarz of New Holstein, Wisconsin and their children, Amy Waggoner and Samantha (Brent) Wedan. Kaye (Joseph) Shukosky of Kaukauna, Wisconsin and their children Tracy Palmer, Anthony (Lindsay) and Ariana. Monica Lisowe and her children Sarah (Josh) Count and Jonathon.  Mary (Roman) Daun and their children, Adam and Sylvia.  Sylvia loved being “Grandma Great” to her twenty-one and counting great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  She is further survived by eight sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sylvia was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angel Daun, her brothers, Russell (Marion) De La Hunt and Duane (Roma) De La Hunt, 5 sisters-in-law and 7 brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm on Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with Rev. Michael Betley officiating.  Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church from 2:00 pm until 3:45 pm on Monday, July 2, 2018.
We are very saddened by your loss. Please accept our deepest sympathy. Unfortunately we are unable to share our support in person. Even though we are in Ireland, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mary Thompson (Friend) - July 1, 2018

Our condolences on the passing of your Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma. I remember her as a very strong presence with an unforgettable laugh! I believe Mrs. Moehn helped my Mom survive the years when she had 3 babies in about 3 1/2 years! My Mom told the story of one hot summer day (remember-no air conditioning - maybe or maybe not a box fan!). She had put the 3 babies (Bob, Mary, & Ann) down for their afternoon nap, had finished rinsing out several cloth diapers, & begun ironing when she turned the iron off, grabbed 2 beers, & walked a couple houses down to "Sylvia's to have a beer together!" This was NOT typical of our Moms, but supporting each other was.
I also remember riding my tricycle down to the end of the sidewalk - just this side of your home - & getting stuck where the sidewalk had raised up in one spot. Suddenly ants were swarming the trike. All I could do was scream bloody murder! Your Mom stuck her head out the front door and, over this 3 or 4 year old's screaming, told me to get off my trike & walk home. I'm not sure how long eternity is, but she kept coaching me (in a very loud voice) until I got off & went home. I consider her my rescuer. Who knows? Without Mrs. Moehn, I could still be stuck on that broken & heaved up sidewalk!
I regret I will not be able to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, but please know I will be there in prayer. I pray the joy of the resurrection & many beautiful & funny memories of life with her bring you all peace & joy.
