Thomas W Lucas
Tomah, WI

Thomas W. Lucas, age 83, formerly of Tomah, passed away peacefully in Green Bay surrounded by his sisters, on Thursday, November 14, 2019.  Tom was born, May 10, 1936, in Sherwood, son of the late Jack and Viola (Wolfmeyer) Lucas.

Tom is survived by his beloved sisters:  Florence (Bernie) VandenHogen, Frances Gay and Charlie, and Irene (Monty) Stock; brother-in-law, Bob Binversie; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Catherine Redig-Binversie and Ronald Redig, and a nephew, Aaron Gay.

Go Cubs!!!  From a young age, Tom fell in love with the sport of baseball.  He always had a glove and ball on him and during the summer months he played short stop for the Sherwood American Legion throughout his high school years.  He faithfully listened to his Cubs games on the radio and eventually tuned in on the television.  He was a true Cubs fan through all the years and he finally was able to see the Cubs bring home the win for the 2016 World Series.  It was a dream come true for Tom.

Not only did Tom enjoy watching the Cubs, but he was an avid sports fan all around.  If he wasn’t watching the Cubs, he was watching the Bucks run down the court, cheering on the Packers, or supporting all the Badger sports.  Tom had a knack for golf and spent some time at the bowling alley.  When he was young, he was setting up pins and eventually became part of a number of bowling leagues.

Tom graduated from Hilbert High School in 1954. During that time he earned 6 sports letters - 4 in baseball and 2 in basketball.  Tom then joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.  He then moved to Tomah and that is where he called home.  He worked over 40 years in the VA hospital in Tomah delivering medical supplies.  He put many miles in his shoes walking throughout the hospital and more importantly he touched many lives doing so.  Tom had a friendly face and smile.  He was a kind, gentle soul who found the good in people and was easy to love.  His love for Jesus and his strong faith was evident by the way he spoke and things he said as he passed you by.

A funeral service celebrating Tom’s life will be at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Wieting Funeral Home (411 W Main St.) in Chilton with Deacon Bruce Corey officiating.  A time for visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home in Chilton.  Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery.

Tom’s family would like to especially thank Cardinal Ridge Residential Care in Green Bay and Unity Hospice in Green Bay for all of their kindness and support.

Tom always wanted to be a sports announcer especially for the Cubs and he was good at it.

May he rest in peace.
