Viorene F Bettner
Viorene F. “Vi” Bettner, age 88, of Chilton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the Bridges of Appleton. Vi was born February 23, 1931 to Ruben & Adela (Lerche) Bettner in Potter.
She graduated from Brillion High School and after the Chilton hospital was opened, she trained for the position of Medical Records Transcriptionist. Eventually, Vi moved to Cincinnati to work for the Shriner’s Burn Center as their Medical Records Transcriber. Vi’s time in Cincinnati created many memories and later her mom and sister joined her in Ohio. While there, she began following the Cincinnati Reds and looked forward to going to the park to watch games, especially when family or friends from Wisconsin would be visiting her. Her passion for sports ran deep, and when she returned to Wisconsin following her retirement, she shifted her loyalty to the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.
Being active in Christian worship was of utmost importance to Vi and she was an active member of Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church in Potter where she taught Sunday school and directed the Junior Choir. Vi had a passion for music throughout her life; she and her sisters in their younger years could be heard frequently singing on the local radio station and she devoted time to choirs at both her Potter church and Cincinnati church.
Vi’s Christian life poured out into the lives of everyone around her. She was kind and hospitable to people who came across her and Vi remained ever thoughtful of others. She was fun to be around, every once in a while offering a wise crack comment or a Peppermint Patty to brighten someones day.
She will be fondly remembered as a loving sister and supporter and will be missed by her two sisters: Lyndoris Jandrey and Wynogene Schmitting; her brothers: Dennis & Stanford “Butch” Bettner; and her friend: Mary Holsdorf. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Gloria Brehmer, Rochelle Bettner; sister-in-law: Judy Bettner; brothers-in-law: Earl Brehmer, Norman Jandrey, Art Schmitting; and a niece: Allyna (Brehmer) Reuter.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church (181 Main St.) in Potter with Rev. Dr. Marc Axelrod officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 am until 11:15 am on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
Vi’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Marc and Jeanne for their many visits, prayers and spiritual support. They would also like to thank the entire staff of the Bridges and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion they have provided.
