Walter A Pendl
Chilton WI
Walter A. “Skip” Pendl, age 78, of Chilton, died on Saturday, May 20, 2023 with family at his side. He was born January 5, 1945 in Kenosha, son of the late Andrew V. & Joyce (Cross) Pendl.
Skip graduated from Chilton high school in 1963 and early in his career, he was employed by Schultz Brothers in Iowa before returning to the Chilton area. It was at this time, he worked side by side with his father at the Pendl Skogmo Department Store in Chilton. During his time at the department store, Skip began pursuing a career as an officer of the law. He proudly served the community of Chilton as an officer for 25 years, assisted in the drug enforcement arena, and was trained in fire investigations. With this and other training, Skip also protected the citizens of Chilton and the surrounding area by being a volunteer firefighter.
He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Sherwood and appreciated each and every moment he could help grow and nurture his community through his service. This was evident through the Chilton Optimist Club as a Charter Member, and volunteering as chairman for the annual “Bike Safety Rodeo” and County Fair stand. He dedicated time to the Boy Scouts and loved working at the haunted house in Chilton during the fall season.
Following his retirement from the police department, Skip drove school bus for the Consolidated Parochial Elementary School, always appreciating the scenery and the interaction he could have with those youth in his care. He was grateful for the friends and colleagues in a coffee club held every morning, first at Marcal’s, and now known as 7 Angels where he was able to relax and most of the world's problems could be solved.
But most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family, enjoying gatherings, camping, vacations "up north", boundary waters camping trips, visiting Colorado, listening to the Chilton band concerts, and providing support at school events.
Survivors include his wife: Gail who he married October 25, 1997 at Hickory Hills Country Club in Chilton; his children: Karie (Dale) Chapman, Lynn (Jeff) Brenner, Kay (Michael) Hart, Mark (Kristin) Pendl and their mother: Darlene Nadler and her friend, Michael Ortlieb; Gail’s children: Kerri (Brian) Brantmeier, Beckie (Russel) Overholt, Kim Allen & Tim Mullenbach; His grandchildren: Nathan Chapman & Madelyn Carrol, Adam (Molly) Chapman, Rose (Colin) Brenner, Danielle (Austin) Schwalenberg, Clayton Brenner & Ally Schrieber, Robin Pendl and Clare Pendl, Chase (Kaitlyn) Owens, Emma Brantmeier & Ryan Dykes, Austin Phillip, Lydia Phillip & Colton Isajiw, Sophia Overholt, Owen Overholt, Maggie Paterick & Ric Dyaus, Samantha Allen; and great grandchildren, Sawyer Schwalenberg and Elliot Owens; his brother Andrew Pendl and brother in law David Miller. He was also blessed to have received into his family, Reyner Cerdas, who joined the family from Costa Rica.
He is further survived by nieces, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. A time of visitation will take place at the funeral home from 11:00 am until 1:45 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023.
